14, 2010 Southeast District Meeting and CE Course
Tuesday September 14th. Business Meeting at 6pm and Balancing Business and Professional Ethics CE course presented by Tina Stoeckmann,PT,DSc,MA following at approximately 6:30pm. Aurora Conference Center (Heil Building - see link below for directions).
Please join us for our business meeting to get updates on our district happenings and state information.
Program Description:
Being professionals in the business of health care can lead to ethical distress. The relative contributions of economics, ethics, and social justice principles to our duties and ability to provide rehabilitation services will be explored. Group discussions of these concepts are an integral part of the process of ethical reflection for both our individual growth as well as our development as a profession and members of society.
Course objectives:
By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to: *Compare and contrast the business vs. professional aspects of the provision of health care services;
*Recognize the multi-layered responsibilities physical therapists have to individuals, organizations, and society;
*Identify legal documentation and ethical principles related to specific issues like reimbursement;
*Apply the concepts presented in this course to case discussions and conflicts in ones own practice.

Guest speakers will be Michele Thorman, P.T., D.P.T., M.B.A., and Gwyneth Straker, P.T., M.S.,
from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse Physical Therapy Program.
Michele serves as a clinical associate professor and PT Program Director at the University
of Wisconsin - La Crosse. In 2009, she was appointed to the WI Physical Therapist Examining Board. Gwyneth is a tenured faculty member and assistant professor in the UW-L PT Program where she currently serves as the Director of Clinical Education.
Gwyneth also is a member of the WPTA Ethics Committee.
A light dinner will be served. CEU certificates will be distributed the evening of the course.
The cost for this course for WPTA members is free; the cost for nonmembers is $60.
