WPTA Receives Outstanding Large Component Award at PT 2009 in Baltimore
The WPTA is known for responsible leadership and innovation.  Our motto, ‘Growing Stronger, Every Day’, guides the work of the Board of Directors in creating an ideal practice environment for physical therapy in Wisconsin and a model for physical therapy practice for the nation.
 

APTA President Scott Ward presented the award to Chapter President Rob Worth and Executive Director Karen Oshman at the President’s Luncheon on June 7th. Some of the accomplishments Scott highlighted included the election of  PT member Penny Bernard Schaber, PT of Appleton to the Wisconsin State Legislature; successfully defending an effort by the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine returned to prohibit anyone but MDs from performing needle EMG procedures; formation of  an Athletic Trainers’ Task Force comprised of PT/ATCs and PT/LATs in anticipation of WATA future legislation; appointment of a task force to address the shortage of PTs and PTAs in Wisconsin in response to physical therapy employers; the creation of a sixth district in 2008 - the new North Central District was created to serve the needs of members living in this part of our state; a donation of $10,000 to the Foundation for Physical Therapy to support physical therapy research through a matching grant to students who raise monies for the Foundation for Physical Therapy through the Pittsburgh-Marquette Challenge; grant monies to student members to provide financial assistance to attend APTA national meetings; additional hospitals have achieved direct access privileges, and several Autonomous Practice Committee members have been recognized at the national level in publications related to autonomous practice; a webpage that is continuously improved to provide members with a very tangible benefit with the members-only reimbursement section often mentioned as being worth the cost of membership and the practice committee responded to approximately 200 inquiries seeking advice or resources related to regulatory practice issues and an “FAQ” page on practice issues was added to the WPTA website.
